Honoring the Brave Americans of D-Day – The Longest Day

The theme of the classic D-Day movie,  The Longest Day.  Turn up the volume!

It was D-Day 2007 on Omaha Beach at H hour (6:30 AM) when a French re-enactor of the 29th Division waded into the surf carrying a magnificent rose. When he was about waist deep he gently placed the rose in the waves to honor the brave American’s of D-Day.

When the rose washed onto the beach I took this photograph.

I returned to Normandy for the 65th Anniversary in 2009 and brought the photograph and every D-Day Veteran I met signed the it. My dear friends Jack Port (4th Division Utah Beach) and Bill Ryan (1st Division Omaha Beach) both signed. Jack’s signature is on the left margin and Bill’s is just under and to the right of the Rose.

God Bless the brave Americans of D-Day!

God Bless America!

  1. Been thinking about you this week—-it is hard for me to realize this was 75 years ago, I remeber all of it like it was last week.

  2. A beautiful tribute on this 75th anniversary of the actions that forever altered our history. May the memory of those incredibly brave men and how they altered world history never be forgotten!
