The date of the signing of the Versailles Peace Treaty, June 28, 1919 has a deep meaning as the Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia five years prior on June 28, 1914. Setting the date for the signing was intentional and not a coincidence! Therefore, the two June 28 dates mark the bookends of the Great War. The United States however, did not adopt the treaty due to partisan in-fighting. Finally two years later, the United States Congress adopted a resolution and a formal United States – German Peace Treaty was signed in Berlin on August 25, 1921.
My wife, Annie, our two daughters, Lindsay and Cecily, and I will be attending this historic international event. Above is our family’s invitation. We will be honoring my Grandfather, George A. Carlson and All of the American doughboys, as well as proudly representing the United States of America!
God Bless America!
Thanks Jeff for representing our country and all of our military veterans, something you do quite well.
